Range Operations Inspector

• Advise unit personnel on the capabilities and limitations of weapons used in military training, including small arms, shoulder-fired launchers, mortars, and MK-106 bombing with USAF aircraft and Army helicopters.
• Conducts continuous safety oversight through mobile patrols, performing pre-operation, during-operation, and post-operation inspections to enforce strict compliance with all regulations and procedures.
• Recommends changes in organization of work, assignment of functions, and lines of authority to improve workflow and services rendered to increase productivity.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• The duties of the position require Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) occasionally.
• This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work to support mission operations.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis
• Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
• Incumbent must obtain and maintain equipment operator's qualification record (DA 348).

One year of specialized experience which includes:
Providing thorough instructions for policing of all ammunition, brass, debris, trash, and residue by using units; operating a computer on automated ranges and maneuver live fire ranges; and completing physical security checks of the ranges/facilities within the range operations complex. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-06.
