Position: ELECTRICIAN SPECIALIST LEADER
Location: Louisiana

This position is for a Statewide Traffic Signal Construction and Maintenance crew. The ability to work out of town every week is required (lodging and per-diem provided). A Class A CDL License is required to begin employment.

About This Position

This position assigns, and inspects the work of all assigned trades apprentices, electricians, and electrician specialists. The incumbent is required to have specialized knowledge of the installation and maintenance of traffic signals. The incumbent is required to be knowledgeable in the safe operation of passenger vehicles, trenching equipment, bucket truck, pole truck, and various tools and equipment utilized in traffic signal installation and maintenance.

The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to perform duties without direct supervision, and lead trades apprentices, electricians, and electrician specialists to accomplish all assigned tasks in ever changing environments when foreman is not present.

The incumbent will be required to utilize work order processing software. The incumbent will be required to ensure equipment utilized by the crew is properly maintained.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the electrical trade.

Job Duties
  • Reads and interprets traffic signal design plans, prints, and diagrams for the construction, installation, and inspection of traffic signals. The incumbent assembles, installs, and/or modifies all material components of traffic signals in accordance with the plans. Verifies that all materials used and work performed by themselves and lower-level employees conforms to the latest LADOTD Standards and Specifications. The incumbent installs electrical service equipment for traffic signals.

    Follows all regulations related to locating utilities prior to performing any subsurface work. Maintains traffic control in work zones.
  • Directs crew in day-to-day work in the absence of the foreman. Creates work plan based on assigned planned work for a given week. Utilizes work order processing software to document all labor, materials, and equipment utilized on a job each day. The incumbent will ensure all PPE is used when appropriate while on a job. Trains lower-level employees on how to perform all work they are requested to do.

    Ensures that all tools are properly locked and secured at the end of each work day. Coordinates & ensures that all equipment maintenance is performed in accordance with DOTD guidelines and manufacturer requirements.
  • First responder to traffic signal knockdowns. Performs initial inspections and coordinates with supervision and crew to initialize full emergency response.
