Crane & Rigging Superintendent/Lift Director - Primoris Heavy Civil - Shreveport, LA

Crane & Rigging Superintendent/Certified Lift Director is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the crane & rigging discipline. This position oversees all crane operators and riggers during lifting operations, works in conjunction with project management for planning, scheduling, and communication of all project crane lifts, and ensures crane and rigging compliance, safety, schedule delivery, and quality of project work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the project crane operator qualification program, including obtaining crane operator certifications, state licenses, and medical certificates in alignment with company requirements.
  • Ensure that assigned personnel are properly qualified for crane and rigging tasks (signaling, rigging, crane operations), trained, competent, and aware of their responsibilities, and comply with all applicable standards and safe work practices.
  • Maintain updated recordkeeping of crane inspections (annual, daily, etc.), rigging inspections, and crane operator/rigger/signal person certifications.
  • Oversee and develop crane lift plans (daily lift plans, critical lift plans, engineered lifts) and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Identify and assign crane A/D directors for inbound/outbound, relocation, and reconfiguration of cranes on site, coordinating with third‑party crane companies or personnel assisting in A/D operations.
  • Establish designated communication methods (radios, hand signals) between all crane operators and designated riggers prior to lifting operations.
  • Evaluate platforms (ground conditions, barge, etc.) and overhead/surrounding obstructions (powerlines, etc.) for safe crane placement and establish safe swing radius.
  • Oversee all crane maintenance needs and requests, coordinating with third‑party crane manufacturers/servicers and project management to schedule proactive maintenance.
  • Coordinate crane operator and rigger training needs and enforce safe work practices in conjunction with HSE and Project Management.
  • Ensure compliance with company and local/national requirements (OSHA, ASME Lift Director, etc.) within assigned responsibilities.
  • Review, approve, and oversee subcontractor or third‑party crane operations on project sites.
  • Implement corporate, segment, and business unit crane and rigging policies, procedures, and instructions within assigned areas of operation.
  • Inspect crane and rigging operations, taking corrective action to correct improper practices.
  • Perform other duties as required by project management.
Required Qualifications
  • 3‑5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • 10+ years of experience in the crane and rigging trade in major bridge, heavy civil, and pile driving operations.
  • Experience with crane makes and models used in heavy civil operations:
    • Kobelco: CK1100G, CK1600G & CK2750G
    • Mi‑Jack: 50HD & 150HD
    • Manitowoc: 11000
    • Link Belt: 248 H
    • Liebherr: LR1300
  • NCCCO, NCCCER, or equivalent certified crane operator.
  • NCCCO Certified Lift Director for mobile and crawler cranes required.
  • Certified rigger/signal person.
  • Knowledge and experience with ASME Lift Director requirements and OSHA crane and rigging regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, and 3D lift plan software.
  • Ability to read and interpret crane manufacturer operator manuals and load charts.
  • Experience in safe use and inspection of rigging hardware.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with Project Management, Supervisors, and Division Leadership.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving ability.
  • Travel to projects required.
