Job Overview
The Department of Transportation, Division of Equipment, is seeking a CT Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead worker. The incumbent will work in a shop environment under the direction of a Caltrans Highway Mechanic Supervisor, leading a team of heavy equipment mechanics, automobile mechanics, helpers and apprentices. Responsibilities include preparing accident damage estimates and job orders, assigning work, checking work, providing instructions, troubleshooting mechanical problems, and performing hands‑on repair work on a variety of equipment including tractors, personnel hoists, spray equipment, loaders, graders, snowplows, pumps, air compressors, diesel and gasoline engines, and other fleet equipment.
The role also involves completing repair records and reports, using computer equipment to input and retrieve data, and ensuring proper safeguards and handling of materials, equipment, and facilities. Travel, rotation, shift changes, and varied work hours and days may apply.
Monthly pay: $6,157.00 – $7,379.00.
Location:
1385 N West Ave, Fresno, California.
- Valid California Class C driver’s license.
- Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, hazardous materials and temperature changes.
- Proficiency in evaluating and repairing heavy and light equipment.
- Ability to use computer equipment for data entry and retrieval.
Examination eligibility for Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead worker. Candidates without current eligibility must be on the state examination list or have transfer, reinstatement, or voluntary demotion status. Eligibility may be determined by score on the Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead worker examination.
