Location: California
Maintenance Mechanic (CF) – Working within a correctional facility, this role inspects, maintains, and repairs plumbing, heating, water, and sewer systems. The position also involves miscellaneous building construction and repair work, interior and exterior painting, furniture refinishing, estimating and requisitioning materials, maintaining tools and equipment, preparing records and reports, supervising inmates in the Department of Corrections, preventing escapes and injuries, ensuring the security of working areas, inspecting premises, and searching inmates for contraband.
Responsibilities- Inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing, heating, water, and sewer systems.
- Perform miscellaneous building construction, repair work, and painting.
- Refinish furniture and manage related tasks.
- Estimate and requisition materials and supplies.
- Keep tools and equipment in good condition and maintain records and reports.
- Supervise and monitor inmates in the Department of Corrections.
- Prevent escapes, injuries, and property damage.
- Maintain security of working areas and work materials.
- Inspect premises and search inmates for contraband.
- Maintain safety awareness, including emergency procedures and hazard reporting.
- Minimum qualifications verified prior to interview (education, experience).
- Experience in plumbing, heating, electrical, or mechanical equipment repair.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of safety orders related to heating, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems.
- Good record‑keeping, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to take direction, work independently, and collaborate with others.
- Valid California driver’s license (if required) and background check.
- Completion of required background investigation, Live Scan Fingerprinting, and tuberculosis testing.
