Position Summary
The Milling Foreman will directly supervise and coordinate the daily activities in cold planing on roads and parking lots. The foreman will engage and perform trade work with the employees supervised.
Duties and Responsibilities40% Supervision
- Directs workers in projects such as construction roadways and grading drainage areas.
- Inspects work areas to determine the type of work required and materials and equipment to be used.
- Inspects equipment and delegates maintenance of equipment to employees.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Enforces safety standards by wearing protective clothing or gear such as gloves, helmets, and safety glasses when and where required by Barriere.
- Interviews, hires, and trains employees; planning, assigns and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
40% Operations
- Operates equipment such as the loader, Cold Planer, roller, sweeper, bulldozer, excavator, front end loader, scraper, track hoe, backhoe, and bobcat and trains workers in equipment operation.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Interprets job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the work crew.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
- Performs activities of workers supervised, such as a laborer, and light and heavy equipment operator.
- Wears protective clothing or gear such as gloves, helmets, and safety glasses when and where required by Barriere.
15% Compliance
- Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
- Abides by all Barriere safety regulations.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
5% Other duties as assigned
Minimum QualificationsRequired
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED
Required Experience:
- 6 months relevant experience and/or training
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Advanced:
- Written and oral communication skills
- Problem analysis and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work well with others at all levels of the organization
- Ability to work under pressure
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Organizational & time management skills
Basic:
- Working knowledge of and proficiency with a variety of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications
- Associate's degree in construction or related field
- 1+ year experience in a construction related field
