Transportation Division Technician
The Transportation Division is a vital part of the City's Public Works Department, supporting public safety, economic vitality, and overall quality of life by ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of people throughout the community. The Technician I/II/II roles are responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and construction tasks related to street projects and traffic control devices, helping to maintain the City's transportation infrastructure.
The Public Works Technician - Transportation is responsible to and performs under the direct supervision of the Transportation Crew Lead and Superintendent.
Examples of Essential Duties- Patches and prepares asphalt streets and grades gravel roads, shoulders, and other areas as needed.
- Sands, salts, and removes snow from City streets and parking lots.
- Performs tasks such as installing guardrails, concrete pads pipes and channels, along with various maintenance and repair work involving basic carpentry, painting, and general electrical duties.
- Participates in the installation and maintenance of traffic devices on construction projects.
- Cleans and performs routine maintenance on storm drainage ditches, systems, and structures.
- Operates light and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, pick-up trucks, and earth movers like skid-steers and backhoes.
- Utilizes software and phones to investigate issues and record work performed.
- Performs minor maintenance on Public Works motor vehicles and equipment.
- Follows rules and policies in accordance with safe working practices.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of City Parks as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge or understanding of general construction equipment, materials, and methods employed in the maintenance and repair of streets.
- Knowledge of general workplace safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Ability to complete general mechanical tasks.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate electronic records and reports.
- Ability to operate City vehicles in accordance with state laws and City policies.
- Ability to interact effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when working with or responding to questions from the public.

All Technician Levels
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid Missouri Driver's License.
- Must obtain CDL within 6 months of hire with completion of written within two weeks of start
Tech II
- OSHA 10 Safety Training Certification.
- Work Zone Flagger Training Certification.
- Completion of the Missouri LTAP Scholars Program – Scholars I.
- 2 years of experience in Public Works – Transportation or a related field.
Tech III
- All Tech II qualifications.
- Completion of the Missouri LTAP Scholars Program – Scholars II.
- 4 years of experience in Public Works – Transportation or a related field.

- Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which would qualify for the position as determined by the Transportation Superintendent and approved by the Public Works Director.
