Summary
:
Under the direction of their assigned Supervisor, the Utility Maintenance Specialist 2 will assist in the maintenance, construction, repair, and installation of wastewater treatment plants, sewer collection lines, lift stations, water distribution systems, well pumps, and all other sewer and water infrastructure.

:

  • Assist in the maintenance, construction, repair, and installation of wastewater treatment plants, sewer collection lines, lift stations, water distribution systems, pull and maintain well pumps, and all other sewer and water infrastructure
  • Assist in locating water & sewer infrastructure such as water mains, sewer gravity lines, sewer force mains, valves, manholes, water meters, etc.
  • Inspecting water & sewer infrastructure
  • Performing repairs to water & sewer infrastructure: water mains, sewer gravity, sewer force mains, valves, manholes, water meters, fire hydrants, etc.
  • Troubleshooting water & sewer infrastructure issues
  • Installation of water mains, sewer gravity, sewer force mains, valves, manholes, water meters, and fire hydrants
  • Reading meters and completing work orders.
  • Operate equipment such as backhoe, trucks and tractors
  • Check to ensure that equipment is properly serviced and in good working order
  • Shall be available to work additional hours as required in emergency situations
  • This position is required to be on-call during nights and weekends
  • Regular, consistent attendance is required
  • Any other duties as assigned

Competencies: Must have general knowledge of how wastewater treatment plants, sewage collection, water wells, and water distribution systems work. The ability to determine the best method of repair and assemble the applicable parts and fittings to accomplish the repair. Must have a general knowledge of the rules and regulations governing utility locating and digging in right of ways. Must be able to read, understand, and communicate job related material.

Work Environment
:
The incumbent typically performs in an outdoor environment. This includes construction sites, open and empty land, wooded areas, both urban and rural roads, drainage and muddy/swampy areas, hot, humid, cold, and wet conditions that are consistent with outdoor projects. The incumbent may also be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment. This position may include work performed in an office environment for training, plan reviews, meetings, project preparation, and progress reviews.

Physical Demands: Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions.

If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.

Required Education/Qualifications
: A high school diploma or equivalent GED preferred; experience in utility maintenance. Must have valid Driver’s License.
