Sewer Technician I/II/III

The Sewer Division is an essential part of the City's Public Works Department, supporting public health, environmental protection, and overall quality of life by ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the wastewater collection system. Sewer Technician I/II/III roles perform a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks related to the operation, upkeep, and repair of the City's wastewater collection system and its appurtenances, helping to maintain critical infrastructure that serves the entire community.

The Public Works Technician – Sewer is responsible to and performs under the direct supervision of the Sewer Crew Lead and Superintendent.

The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

• Perform a variety of indoor and outdoor construction, maintenance, repair, testing and reporting assignments common to the collection of wastewater.
• Participate in monitoring and calibrating a variety of wastewater instruments.
• Participate in the on-call rotation after demonstrating competence to provide after-hours support, including responding to emergencies and system issues as needed.
• Perform installation, maintenance, and repair tasks on lift stations, grinder stations, and connected infrastructure.
• Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot lift stations, pumps, valves, and control systems.
• Collect and document data for system mapping, maintenance records, and regulatory compliance.
• Performs minor maintenance on Public Works motor vehicles and equipment.
• Follows rules and policies in accordance with safe working practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Sewer Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge or understanding of general construction equipment, materials, and methods employed in the maintenance and repair of wastewater collection systems.
• Knowledge of general workplace safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Ability to complete general mechanical tasks.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Ability to maintain detailed and accurate electronic records and reports.
• Ability to operate City vehicles in accordance with state laws and City policies.
• Ability to interact effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
• Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when working with or responding to questions from the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

• All Technician Levels:
  High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid Missouri Driver's License. Must obtain a CDL within one month of hire and secure manual and tanker endorsements within one year of employment. OSHA 10 Safety Training Certification within one year of employment.
• Tech II: 2 years of experience in Public Works – Sewer or a related field.
• Tech III:
  All Tech II qualifications. Obtain a Class D wastewater license. 4 years of experience in Public Works – Sewer or a related field. or Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which would qualify for the position as determined by the Sewer Superintendent and approved by the Public Works Director.
