Job Summary

Aquila Corporation is seeking experienced OSP Fiber Construction Technicians and 3-man crews to join our team. As an OSP Fiber Construction Crew, you will be responsible for handling various phases of fiber construction including aerial, underground, service drops, splicing, testing, and documentation. The position requires a hands-on, multi-skilled approach with a focus on safety, production, workmanship, and professionalism.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience in OSP telecommunications and fiber construction
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a 3-man crew
  • Proficiency in aerial, underground, service-drop, splicing, and testing work
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of utility damage prevention and safe excavation practices
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
Responsibilities
  • Constructing aerial fiber plant, including building strand, installing hardware, pulling fiber, and completing aerial fiber installations
  • Performing underground construction tasks such as burying mainline and service-drop fiber, installing conduit, and pulling fiber through conduit
  • Installing aerial and underground fiber service drops, splicing or terminating fibers as needed, and testing service-drop fiber
  • Conducting fiber splicing, fusion splicing, organizing splice closures, and performing testing using OTDR and optical power meters
  • Operating directional drilling equipment and managing drilling fluids when required
  • Operating fiber-blowing equipment and blowing fiber while ensuring proper cable conditions
  • Reading and interpreting construction prints, staking sheets, and fiber plans; documenting field changes and deviations
  • Ensuring equipment and tooling are used safely, inspected regularly, and properly maintained
  • Following safety protocols, using required personal protective equipment, and maintaining work-zone safety
