MAINTENANCE REPAIRER MASTER

The incumbent performs skilled and semi-skilled work at the 70,000-acre Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in coastal southwest Louisiana. The refuge encompasses more than 200 miles of waterways, approximately 150 miles of maintained levees, 12 buildings of varying sizes, and over 50 water-control structures.

The position also requires the incumbent to perform duties at other Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries properties, including the 70,000-acre White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area in Vermilion Parish. WLCA includes 7 buildings, 5 pumping stations, and annual maintenance and installation of 14 duck blinds.

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

  • Three years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
JOB DUTIES

The work is performed in a coastal environment where mosquitoes and other biting insects are common. The area's unique climatic conditions and semi-fluid soils create physically demanding working conditions. The incumbent is regularly required to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds, and the position periodically requires crouching and crawling as well as sustained physical exertion and endurance beyond ordinary levels.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • New construction, including general carpentry for docks, stairs, walkways, outbuildings, etc.
  • Performs general repairs, maintenance, on buildings, outbuildings, and other facilities, including drywall repair and painting, minor roof repair, replacing windows and screens, etc.
  • Performs plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance, repairs, and installation to support refuge facilities and water management infrastructure
  • Welding and metal fabrication to repair and construct equipment and infrastructure, such as traps, brackets, frames, and other custom metal components
  • Grounds maintenance, including operation of tractors and rotary cutters (bush hogs) to mow and maintain facility grounds, rights-of-way, levees, and other designated areas to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Other duties as assigned, such as assisting with the seining and management of fish ponds and participating in public outreach, educational programs, and special events
POSITION- SPECIFIC DETAILS:

This position will be domiciled in Cameron Parish.

Appointment Type: Job appointment, probational appointment, promotional, or detail to special duty.
