Field Service Technician – Food Processing Equipment
Build something new on the West Coast !
Are you the kind of technician who enjoys being out in the field, getting your hands dirty, solving problems and figuring out why a machine isn't doing what it's supposed to?
Then this could be an interesting opportunity for you.
We are looking for an experienced Field Service Technician to join a growing German engineering company that is expanding its operations into the U.S.
The company specializes in automated, custom-built machinery and thermal process systems for the food processing industry
. You’ll be joining the U.S. operation at an exciting stage of its development, with California as your primary territory and the wider West Coast as your main area of responsibility.
You’ll be the person customers call when their equipment needs to be installed, serviced, repaired or brought back to peak performance.
Your day-to-day work will include:
- Performing mechanical and electrical maintenance, repairs and service on thermal processing equipment
- Troubleshooting electrical controls, sensors, burner controls, control cabinets and HMI systems
- Diagnosing PLC issues and making basic programming adjustments using Siemens TIA Portal / STEP 7
- Working on heat exchangers, gas-fired burners, smoke generators and other process equipment
- Carrying out installations, commissioning and technical troubleshooting at customer sites
- Responding quickly to service calls and helping customers minimize production downtime
- Performing scheduled service and safety inspections
- Reading and working from electrical schematics, technical drawings and parts lists
- Writing service reports and documenting completed work
- Training customer personnel on equipment operation, cleaning/CIP and basic troubleshooting
In short:
you’ll keep sophisticated food-processing equipment running and help customers get the most out of their systems.
You don't necessarily need to tick every box. We're looking for someone with a strong technical foundation, a hands-on mindset and the confidence to troubleshoot equipment independently.
Ideally, you bring:
- A technical education in Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, Electromechanics, Industrial Maintenance or a comparable field
- At least 2 years of experience in industrial maintenance, equipment installation, field service or technical troubleshooting
- Experience with automated machinery, special-purpose machinery or industrial processing equipment
- Experience with Siemens PLCs, TIA Portal and/or STEP 7
- Experience in the food processing or meat processing industry is a strong plus
- Ability to read electrical schematics, technical drawings and parts lists
- Knowledge of NEC / NFPA 70 and U.S. safety standards
- OSHA knowledge or certification is a plus
- Pneumatics and/or welding experience is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach
- Good written and spoken English
- Willingness to travel extensively within your territory
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of your service assignments
This isn't just another service technician job.
You’ll be joining a German engineering company in the process of establishing and growing its U.S. presence
. That means you’ll have the opportunity to play an important role in building the service organization on the West Coast.
You can expect:
- A permanent position with a financially stable and innovative company
- A key role in the company's U.S. expansion
- California / West Coast as your primary service territory
- A varied role with sophisticated, customized equipment
- Plenty of independence and responsibility
- Competitive compensation
- 30 days of vacation
- Opportunities for training and professional development
- Short decision-making processes and a hands-on management style
- The opportunity to work with highly automated, custom-built food processing equipment
If you're an experienced technician who enjoys solving problems rather than just replacing parts
, likes working with customers and doesn't mind a bit of travel, we'd love to hear from you.
You don't have to come from exactly the same industry. If you have a strong background in industrial automation, machinery, electrical systems and field service
, we'd still be very interested in talking to you.
