Under general supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades (SBT) and in their absence, Chief Engineer or Correctional Plant Supervisor, the Carpenter III will perform work as a lead carpenter. All personnel may be required to work overtime, are subject to callbacks, work holidays/weekends as the need of California Correctional Institution dictates. This position is responsible for performing the work with or without incarcerated persons or other staff.

The position is an Institutional Dispatch position, with the office/shop located at the main Plant Operations Carpenter’s Shop.

CCI is a Multi-level, Sensitive Needs Yard facility consisting of three facilities, encompassed within a campus style layout with varied terrain. Work in this location may require exposure to varied temperatures dependent upon the season.

California Correctional Institution is located in the Tehachapi Mountains approximately 325 miles south of Sacramento and approximately 120 miles north of Los Angeles.

15 minute commute from Tehachapi City, 1 hour 15 minute commute from Lancaster/Palmdale and 1 hour commute from Bakersfield.

Centrally located for destination/vacation spots: 4 hours to Las Vegas, 2 hours to Los Angeles, 5 hours to San Diego, 3 hours to the Central Coast and 2.25 hours to Wine Country in Paso Robles.

Food Trucks vary daily.
