Overview
The Corrections Counselor 2 position with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette supports rehabilitation and growth. You will help inmates build confidence and learn strategies for healthier decisions. The position improves adjustment and prepares individuals for life after incarceration.
Responsibilities- Counseling Support: Interview inmates and help them work through institutional adjustment and personal concerns
- Skill Development Guidance: Provide referrals and direction to build social, educational, and vocational skills
- Case Management Records: Maintain case files and prepare reports needed for managing inmate caseloads
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Communicate with staff, families, and community agencies to support inmate needs
- Assessment Interpretation: Review tests, evaluations, and histories to develop programming and risk recommendations
- Reentry and Parole Planning: Assist with re-entry coordination, identification needs, and preparation of parole reports
- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch
- Telework: This position does not allow telework
- Salary: Starting annual salary of $63,301.00 (before taxes) for new employees with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 training program (Federal or Commonwealth equivalent)
- One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility, and a bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in at least one of: sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field
- Equivalent combination of experience and training covering one year of professional counseling or casework in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in any of the above fields
Special Requirement: Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain them.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
- Meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement
- Be able to perform essential job functions
Legal Requirement: Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.
