Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Residential Services, the Youth Advocate is responsible for developing and providing onsite trauma‑informed direct services and activities for youth (ages 0-17) and caregivers residing in confidential residential programs for families impacted by intimate partner and sexual violence. Youth‑centered services will include crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy with schools and other entities, and activities which increase engagement in communal environment, learning of coping skills to heal from abuse they have experienced, and other supportive activities while in the residential program.

This position will require working closely with residential advocates and staff across CCS programs, as well as forging collaborative relationships with other youth‑serving providers throughout San Diego County.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct developmentally appropriate intakes and needs assessments for youth using trauma‑informed and client‑centered approaches.
  • Provide individualized support, child‑focused activities, psychoeducation, advocacy, and resource referrals based on participant needs.
  • Assist in developing individualized goal plans and monitor client progress through regular meetings and ongoing support.
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers as needed, including support related to parenting strategies, child development, school needs, and community resources such as childcare services.
  • Develop, organize, and facilitate onsite youth programming, including recreational activities, playgroups, and family engagement events.
  • Provide advocacy and support for school enrollment, school transitions, and connections to eligible educational and supportive services.
  • Deliver crisis intervention, emotional support, and emergency response services for at‑risk children, youth, and families.
  • Coordinate with schools, community partners, service providers, and youth‑serving organizations to support client needs and continuity of care.
  • Maintain knowledge of agency programs, community resources, and applicable regulations, including the McKinney‑Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
  • Support daily shelter operations to help maintain a safe, supportive, and trauma‑informed environment for participants.
  • Complete and maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation within web‑based systems and required reports.
  • Administer approved client assistance, including gift cards, and ensure proper documentation and fiscal submission procedures are followed.
  • Maintain training required and complete a minimum of 12 hours of ongoing training annually.
  • Meet all required timekeeping practices and deadlines in compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Maintain knowledge of agency programs and services; build partnerships with youth‑serving organizations and participate in cross‑training and team collaboration.
  • Support day‑to‑day shelter operations to ensure participant’s safety and well‑being.
  • Manage approved gift cards and ensure proper documentation and timely submission to Fiscal.
  • Coordinate with school liaisons to connect families to eligible state and federal services.
Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, child development, or a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Coursework in child development and/or experience working with at‑risk youth from an accredited educational institution.

Complete California State‑approved Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training (or must complete upon hiring).
