Position Overview
The Family Court of St. Louis County is hiring for Full‑Time Male Detention Deputy Juvenile Officer positions within the Detention Department. These positions are established with a Bona Fide Requirement:
Occupational Qualification that requires the candidate to be of the same gender as the resident unit. Due to the nature of the interaction required in these positions, only MALE candidates are eligible.
Shifts are 6 a.m.–2 p.m., 2 p.m.–10 p.m., or 10 p.m.–6 a.m. Salary is $23.63–$25.99 hourly, which includes a 10% addition to pay. A 10% shift differential is awarded for second or third shifts. After the probationary period, employees are eligible for annual merit increases based on performance appraisal ratings, contingent upon budget availability.
Responsibilities- Exercise appropriate behavior‑management techniques in enforcing rules and regulations in a secure facility at the front desk or within the unit.
- Provide informal individual and group counseling, including crisis intervention.
- Maintain security and control, supervising juveniles assigned to the residential detention units or working at the control desk.
- Develop, implement, and oversee specialized detention programs and activities for juvenile residents as part of a large behavioral model.
- Build team approaches to resolve problems and serve as a model for detained youth.
- Supervise shower facilities, conduct unit or body searches of residents, and physically restrain residents when appropriate.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related social/behavioral science, or
- Four years of responsible, paraprofessional social service experience working with juvenile delinquents and/or their families, or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Applicants for permanent, part‑time, full‑time, term, or on‑call positions must undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use before appointment. The cost of screening will be borne by the County.
- All applicants must submit to an extensive background and criminal record check.
Position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
