About the RoleVacancy Status: This posting is for a current vacancy to begin September 2026.
The Municipality of Clarington, Public Services Department is looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff to provide leadership and supervision in a safe and enjoyable environment for our seasonal recreation programs. The Program Instructor 2 position reports to the Supervisor, Community Programs – Recreation and Inclusion. Recreation programs operate from September 2026 to June 2027.
Work Model: Front Line
Key Responsibilities- Implementing and supervising registered and drop‑in recreation activities
- Adapting programming where required to meet the needs and abilities of all participants
- Providing assistance to participants, including appropriate first aid
- Communicating effectively with co‑workers, parents, and supervisors
- Responding to general inquiries and providing excellent customer service
- Ensuring participant safety by completing program reports, checking and reporting on any safety hazards
- Candidates must be at least 16 years of age, with demonstrated leadership qualities
- Program supervisory experience or equivalent experience and be able to work with minimal supervision
- 1–2 years experience working with children in a recreation setting
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service
- Proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certification would be an asset at time of interview. Successful candidates must obtain a Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certificate at employee’s expense prior to commencing employment
- Certificate in High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) would be an asset at time of interview. Successful candidates must obtain a PHCD certificate at employee’s expense prior to commencing employment
- Must be legally able to work in Canada
- Rate of pay: $21.29 per hour (2026 rate)

Successful candidates will be required to complete scheduled training prior to the start of programs and must be able to work evenings and weekends, up to a maximum 24 hours per week
A satisfactory criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate.
