Chronic Neglect Social Services Unit Supervisor

Job Location: Base Location is negotiable in Missouri.

The Department of Social Services partners with families and communities to protect children, rehabilitate youth and move families to self-sufficiency so that Missourians can lead safe, healthy and productive lives.

This position is responsible for the direct supervision, guidance, and development of staff assigned to the Chronic Neglect Unit. The Chronic Neglect Unit provides specialized assessment and intervention for families with repeated reports of abuse or neglect, ongoing safety concerns, and chronic risk factors. The Frontline Supervisor provides case consultation, ensures consistent practice and policy compliance, monitors the quality and timeliness of work, and supports staff in identifying and addressing patterns of chronic maltreatment.

• Provides direct supervision, guidance, and support to staff assigned to the Chronic Neglect Unit, ensuring consistent practice, policy compliance, and quality service delivery.
• Reviews and consults on assessments and case activities involving repeated reports of abuse or neglect, ongoing safety concerns, and chronic risk factors to support appropriate decision‑making and intervention.
• Monitors staff caseloads, assignments, documentation, and required time frames to ensure work is completed accurately, thoroughly, and in accordance with Children’s Division policy.
• Provides regular case consultation and assists staff in identifying patterns of maltreatment, assessing child safety and risk, engaging families, and determining appropriate services and interventions.
• Reviews and approves team members' work as required, providing feedback and direction to strengthen assessment quality, documentation, critical thinking, and case decision‑making.
• Trains, coaches, and evaluates assigned team members; identifies individual and team development needs and supports continued growth in knowledge and practice related to chronic neglect.
• Coordinates with other Children’s Division team members, supervisors, and program areas to promote continuity of services and effective responses to families with complex or ongoing needs.
• Supports collaboration with community partners and other professionals involved with families to promote coordinated assessment, service planning, and child safety.
• Performs other related work as assigned.

• High School Diploma or High School Equivalent and Nine or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

OR

• One or more yearsof experience as a Social Services Specialist (III) or Senior Social Services Specialist with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

• Three or more years of experience as an Associate Social Services Specialist and/or Social Services Specialist (II) with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

• A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably a degree in Social Work or comparable human services field (Substitutions allowed); and,

OR

Five or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
