THIS OPPORTUNITY IS LOCATED IN VICTORVILLE, CA!

The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Victim Advocate. Victim Advocates provide essential support to individuals who have experienced or witnessed a crime, helping them navigate the criminal justice system while addressing their unique needs, as well as those of their families.

Positions are located throughout San Bernardino County

Applicants may apply for either Victim Advocate Trainee or Victim Advocate (journey-level). Candidates are encouraged to review both job descriptions carefully and apply based on their qualifications.

Victim Advocate Trainees may be promoted to Victim Advocate within 12 months upon meeting the minimum qualifications and receiving a successful Work Performance Evaluation (WPE).

Candidates possessing Spanish/English bilingual skills are encouraged to apply.

* A victim, as defined in the criminal justice system, is a person who has been harmed by another person.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process:
Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.

Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

Visa Sponsorship:
San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Work Environment:
Incumbents must operate with a high level of confidentiality and discretion when performing job duties.

Promotion:
Victim Advocate Trainees are eligible for promotion to Victim Advocate upon meeting the minimum qualification for the class with a satisfactory work progress report within 12 months or be terminated.

Victim Advocate Trainee

Education:

Associate's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Behavioral or Social Science or equivalent units.

--AND--

Must Meet One Of The Following Options
  • Option 1:
    Completion of six (6) months of full-time experience and at least 384 total hours or more of supervised volunteer or internship crisis intervention counseling in a District Attorney's Office or a private victim assistance program contracted by a District Attorney's office.
  • Option 2:
    Six (6) months of full-time experience providing crisis intervention or counseling to victims
    * immediately following traumatic events resulting from violent crimes (e.g., domestic violence, child abuse, assault, sexual assault, elder abuse, homicide, robbery, drunk driving, human trafficking, vehicular manslaughter, and hate crimes) in either a private or government-operated victim assistance agency.
  • Option 3:
    Six (6) months of full-time equivalent experience assisting victims…
