Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Social Services Supervisor, the Support Services Advocate will be responsible for providing the Social Services Departments’ clients with program support. The Advocate will be responsible for assisting clients with advocacy to individuals and family members who have been impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, sex trafficking, stalking, Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) and other crime/s within the grant scope of work, and policies established by the Tuolumne band of Me-Wu Indians.
The Advocate will help build relationships with law enforcement and other partner agencies as well as create education and outreach component of the program. The Advocate will help with assisting with shelter, crisis intervention, advocacy, safety planning, job search assistance, court accompaniment and community outreach. The Advocate will assist with the implementation of the goals and objectives and organizational development addressed.
The Advocate will work cooperatively and collaboratively with the staff of the Social Services Department, other Tribal departments and mainstream agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.
Assist with the assessment of the needs, preferences, resources and conditions relations to the grant/s, as well as for outreach and education on/off the Rancheria and service area. 2.
Must uphold the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians confidentiality requirements on and off duty. 3.
Assists with strategic planning process as it responds to the needs of victim/survivors.
4.
Maintain accurate data collection, daily log contact sheets, and documentation as required.
5.
Performs outreach and public relations related to grants goals and objectives.
6.
Provide advocacy for the victims/survivors in the form of emergency assistance established in the program, safety planning, transportation and referral services, as needed. 7.
Participates in staff development programs to increase knowledge and competence.
8.
Responsible for inputting data for statistics, monthly reports and monitoring expenditures for budget and program correspondence. 9.
Available for rotated on-call assistance for crisis calls, as assigned. 10.
Available to travel and work odd hours and on weekends, as assigned.
11.
Will facilitate support groups assigned. 12.
Support and strengthen relationships with local resources and appropriate agencies in support of victims/survivors, as well as work with local agencies to understand culturally specific issues, concerns and responses.
13.
Will assist and coordinate on-site training and consultations, as required.
14.
Will attend required trainings, local resource meetings that have pertinent information that relate to the program, and other meetings as required by the supervisor. 15.
Will assist with the set up and facilitation of community and educational presentations.
16.
Provide transportation for grant-related needs. 17.
Perform any other tasks consistent with program guidelines.
18.
Other related duties as assigned by immediate Supervisor and Department Director.## Qualifications
Qualifications:
1.
High School Diploma or GED.
2.
Must possess or be willing/able to obtain State Certified Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault certification and training within first 90-120 days of employment.
2. Knowledge of modern office technology, including the use of computers for data and word processing.
3. Experience in relevant and/or closely related field providing advocacy services and support to domestic violence/sexual assault victims/survivors and those who have been impacted by crime/s.
4. Ability to work with a variety of people and problems.
6. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
7. Ability to take accurate verbal and written direction.
8. Ability to use good judgment and function effectively in a crisis.
9. Must possess a valid California drivers’ license and comply with the requirements of the Tribe’s driving policy and insurance requirements. 10. Able and willing to work in the service area/s.
11. Experience creating flyers, brochures, publications, and marketing materials for the purpose of outreach and education.
