We deliver a seamless “just works” Kubernetes cluster experience by abstracting complex orchestration, enabling users to leverage vSAN storage solutions for enterprise‑grade workloads.
Senior Software Engineer – Cloud Native StorageAs a Senior Software Engineer on the CNS team, you will design, implement, and deliver features for a highly scalable distributed storage product that powers Kubernetes workloads across thousands of customer environments.
Key Responsibilities- Reliable Operation: Ensure dependable operation of Kubernetes storage control planes across enterprise environments.
- Lifecycle Management: Oversee complete lifecycle management of Kubernetes workload clusters.
- Enablement: Work across layers—from the storage control plane to the vSAN data plane—to enable Kubernetes workloads.
- Distributed Storage Control‑Plane Design: Architect and implement control‑plane workflows for creation, upgrade, movement, and scaling.
- Resiliency: Build robust control‑plane resiliency to handle failure scenarios including upgrades, split‑brain conditions, networking outages, and version skew.
- Rigorous Testing: Develop automated and comprehensive tests to validate correctness, upgrade processes, and resilience.
- Design & Implementation: Lead design and hands‑on implementation of distributed systems, primarily using Go and/or C++.
- Feature Delivery & Ownership: Own the Software Development Lifecycle within designated technical areas, accelerating feature delivery.
- Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:
Partner with Technical Leads, architects, dependent teams, and Product Management to translate complex problems into clear technical designs and manage dependencies and risks. - Production Support: Troubleshoot and debug production and non‑production issues across multiple layers.
- Minimum 5 years of experience building highly scalable distributed systems.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or Engineering.
- Strong foundational knowledge in data structures and algorithms.
- Experience addressing scale, performance, and concurrency challenges.
- Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes or understanding of control‑plane architecture (API server, PV, etcd, controller‑manager).
- Experience extending the Kubernetes API, designing declarative APIs, and implementing reconciliation loops.
- Infrastructure orchestration experience across compute, networking, and storage.
- Knowledge of Linux internals (cgroups, name spaces) and container runtimes such as containerd.
- Knowledge of the Container Storage Interface (CSI) and management of PVs and PVCs.
- Strong systems design fundamentals focused on consistency, availability, and failure handling.
- Ability to work independently, collaborate across teams, and communicate clearly.
The annual base salary range for this position is $141,300 - $226,000. In addition, you will be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, a competitive new‑hire equity grant, and annual equity awards.
