UX Engineer Intern, Applied AI

Job Description

We’re looking for a UX Engineer Intern to join the AppliedAI squad ’ll contribute frontend code across the product and bring design sensibility to ensure every interaction feels intuitive and polished.

As an intern you will collaborate closely with product management and engineering on a workspace that combines copilot interactions, data visualization, and generative workflows. Your primary goal is to ship well‑built, well‑designed frontend code in a real production codebase.

• Write clean, reviewable code in React, Type Script, HTML, and CSS using our version control and code‑review workflow.
• Apply design judgment to every build: color auditing, interaction consistency, component reuse, information hierarchy, and progressive disclosure.
• Navigate ambiguous product problems with PM and engineering, mapping user mental models and making opinionated design decisions grounded in research.
• Iterate based on team feedback and real‑user testing, treating designs as hypotheses to be tested rather than deliverables to hand off.

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, HCI, Interaction Design, Product Design, or a related field.
• Have written frontend code in a real codebase and are comfortable with code review, version control, and project workflows.
• Own portfolio work that showcases interaction design, implementation decisions, and design judgment. Be ready to discuss your choices.
• Have a keen design eye: you notice inconsistent patterns, unclear hierarchy, or awkward interactions and know how to fix them.
• Confident using AI tools to accelerate work, yet you can critique AI output and ensure it meets high design standards.
• Fast, curious, and low‑ego: you prefer shipping and learning over polishing in isolation.

• Experience designing AI‑powered interfaces such as copilots, chat‑based workflows, or generative UX patterns.
• Familiarity with data‑dense interfaces – dashboards, tables, multi‑panel layouts.

Hybrid model – you’ll work from our Redwood City office. Local candidates only; no relocation is offered.
