Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full‑time Manager, Software Engineer who will supervise a team of software engineers, ensure activities are completed on time and within budget, and manage the development of complex software products. The position is based at our Bridgeton, MO facility with an option for in‑person or hybrid work. The role requires independent technical project completion, mentorship and coaching of engineers, and responsibility for employee development and new hire recruiting when necessary.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise a software engineering team focused on design, development, analysis, documentation, and testing of products, systems, or subsystems.
  • Manage budget, cost, and schedule inputs, and design assignments for the software department.
  • Work closely with staff to conceptualize systems and software technical designs.
  • Mentor and coach engineers within and outside of direct staff.
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, with cost as a key variable.
  • Supervise a group independently, provide assistance to staff, communicate work priorities, verify accuracy of work, and support engineering employee development.
  • Drive program design to meet cost and design objectives.
  • Document component and subsystem specifications and requirements.
  • Participate in proposal preparation.
  • Ensure completion of assigned tasks on time and in compliance with technical requirements.
  • Support and partake in technical engineering support activities, such as design reviews.
  • Perform design, development, modification, analysis, and documentation of various software systems.
  • Help resolve technical issues within the company and with outside suppliers.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings.
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated people and technical leadership capabilities.
  • Proven computer science fundamentals in embedded development, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
  • Experience in one or more of: C, C++, C#, and/or Java.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of complex software systems through successful customer delivery.
  • Ability to apply technical expertise to lead a software engineering team through solving complex embedded design problems.
  • Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  • Experience influencing software engineering best practices within the team.
  • Experience continuously improving engineering practices for the software platform to support efficiency, reliability, and serviceability goals.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to develop a strong technical platform vision that encourages team members to build configuration‑driven platform tools to allow the principles of the team to scale throughout the organization.
  • Ability to be a strong mentor of peers and direct reports.

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active Department of Defense security clearance, or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
