Backend Developer, Software Architect
Fabletics is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Creative Systems team — the engineers behind how we produce, manage, and publish the creative that powers our brand across web, mobile app, retail, email, and paid media. The team owns three connected platform areas: our Digital Asset Management (DAM) and creative production tooling; our marketing and creative automation platforms (campaign setup, personalization, dynamic creative delivery);
and our CMS / content platform. These systems sit at the intersection of Creative, Marketing, Merchandising, and Ecommerce, and they directly influence speed-to-market, content quality, and conversion.
This role primarily focuses on people leadership, delivery, and day‑to‑day engineering support. You’ll own the squad’s performance, hiring, and engagement while ensuring on‑time, high‑quality delivery. A hands‑on manager, you’ll stay close to the code through reviews, design discussions, and debugging when critical.
What you will do- People Leadership & Development
Own growth, performance, hiring, and engagement for the squad. Run 1:1s, coach, navigate performance conversations directly and early, and create stretch opportunities that develop engineers.
- Squad Delivery & Operating Rhythm
Own delivery, sprint health, technical direction, and the operating cadence (standups, planning, retros, roadmap reviews). Keep the squad focused and unblocked. Partner with Product, Creative, Brand, and Marketing leadership to align roadmap with new capability delivery and platform health. Own release management and change communication across systems with many upstream and downstream dependencies.
- Hands‑On Technical Contribution
Participate in design discussions, PR reviews, and debugging on the team’s most complex or highest‑risk work. Pick up tickets yourself when needed and unblock integrations or build failures. Set the technical bar by example and partner with Dev Ops and QA Automation on CI/CD, test coverage, and observability.
- AI‑Driven Team Enablement
Drive adoption of AI tools across planning, code review, testing, and documentation, and automate creative workflows such as AI‑assisted asset tagging and content generation.
- Platform & Integrations
Hold the team accountable for clean, well‑documented integrations between our creative and production workflows, DAM, creative automation tools, and the surfaces that consume them. Guide architectural decisions across a stack that includes Java‑based platforms, C#/.NET, Node.js, Python for AI/ML, React, event‑driven webhook orchestration, file‑based pipelines, REST APIs, and AWS.
3–7 years of software engineering experience and 3+ years as an Engineering Manager or team lead;
Bachelor’s in CS, Engineering, or equivalent.
- Proven people developer who has grown engineers, navigated performance conversations, and built strong team cultures.
- Experience leading platform, integration, or content/CMS teams with integration experience with DAM, CMS, marketing automation, or creative production tools.
- Strong technical foundation across C#/.NET, Node.js, Python back‑end services, React, and REST API design; comfortable staying hands‑on with code review, design, and debugging.
- AI‑forward mindset: daily user of AI‑assisted development tools and hands‑on with generative AI, with concrete views on how AI reshapes planning, building, testing, and shipping.
- Excellent communicator, clear under pressure, and credible with senior creative, marketing, and technology stakeholders.
- Comfortable with occasional off‑hours availability for launch windows and time‑sensitive escalations.
- Familiarity with video processing pipelines (transcoding, codecs, MAM workflows) or Java‑based content platforms is a plus.
This role is remote‑friendly, with headquarters based in El Segundo, CA.
