Software Engineer – BE, Python

• Act as a project or system leader coordinating engineers
• Determine technical tasks and set clear technical direction
• Lead the design and architecture of scalable cloud-native backend systems
• Define and drive the technical roadmap
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship
• Architect and develop large-scale backend systems using Python, Django, or Flask
• Establish engineering standards and promote code quality and design excellence
• Design and implement fault-tolerant, high-availability systems with disaster recovery capabilities
• Apply advanced security practices, encryption, and access control
• Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, and Operations teams
• Improve technical frameworks, development processes, and system performance
• Balance time, quality, complexity, and risk to deliver optimal solutions
• Represent Pay Pal externally with partners, customers, and industry organizations

• 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience designing scalable, cloud-native backend systems using microservices and serverless frameworks
• Experience defining technical roadmaps and aligning engineering initiatives with business goals
• Experience providing technical leadership and mentorship
• Proficiency with Python, Django, or Flask
• Experience designing large-scale, fault-tolerant, high-availability backend systems
• Knowledge of secure coding, encryption, access control, compliance, and data protection
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies preferred
• Background in large-scale, high-performance system design and optimization preferred
• Familiarity with payments, financial systems, or regulatory environments preferred
• Exposure to AWS, GCP, Azure, and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CDK preferred
• Hands-on experience with Redis preferred
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture and SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Pulsar preferred
• Contributions to open-source projects or developer communities preferred

Demonstrates expertise in designing and architecting scalable cloud-native backend systems using Python, Django, or Flask, while providing technical leadership and mentorship. Proficient in implementing fault-tolerant, high-availability systems with a strong focus on security practices and compliance.
