Position: Recreation Coordinator (Programming)
Location: RepublicPrimary Purpose
Responsible for the development, organization, marketing, implementation, and supervision of a large number of community programs serving individuals of all ages. Contributes to the overall success of the Republic Parks & Recreation Department through collaboration, planning, and innovative thinking to achieve division and departmental goals.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Superintendent (Operations, Programming, & Events) and general oversight of the Parks & Recreation Directors.
Responsible for the planning, development, organization, facilitation, and oversight of all community program offerings. Continually evaluates programs and recommends or implements necessary improvements and changes to remain ahead of the curve.Plans various youth summer camps. Develops camp themes and activities, recruits and trains camp staff, schedules field trips, and oversees camp operations.Recruits, trains, and evaluates the performance of part-time program coordinators, program instructors, seasonal employees, and volunteers.Assists with preparation and tasks related to departmental special events as needed at the discretion of the Recreation Superintendent (Operations, Programming, & Events). Attends special events as a member of the Parks & Recreation team.Assists with the Volunteers in Parks (VIP) Program. Recruits and schedules program and special event volunteers.Assists in preparation and planning for farmers market/community event space at J.R. Martin Park including farmers markets, outdoor classroom activities, art walks/programs, Light the Loop, and other programming.Plans ahead for advertising and marketing of community programs and assists in the creation of graphics and marketing materials as needed.Prepares and administers program budgets. Completes accurate budgets following each program. Recommends specifications for major equipment and material purchases.Plans and implements short-term or annual goals, objectives, and strategies for the department to ensure efficient organization and completion of work.Performs special assignments as requested by the Parks & Recreation administrative team.Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the public.Performs other duties as assigned.Important Duties
Attends conferences, workshops, and meetings for professional development purposes.Performs continual research of other Parks and Recreation agencies and trade publications to keep abreast of current trends.Maintains appropriate supplies for assigned area.Maintains a neat and orderly work area.Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Management, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Recreation, Sport and Park Administration, Entertainment Management, or related area plus one (1) year of previous work experience in a recreational environment. Experience may be substituted for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Must be a self-starter who possesses initiative and urgency in their work. Must have knowledge of planning, scheduling, and conducting recreational programs; must be able to memorize and retain information; must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; must have good time management skills; must have good cognitive and analytical skills; must be able to handle stressful situations;
must be able to quickly assess or judge situations; must be able to make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility.
