Primary Purpose

Assists in the supervision and daily management of aquatic operations to ensure the safety of patrons, the professionalism of staff, and the efficient operation of the facility. This position provides leadership to lifeguards on duty, reinforces high safety standards, supports staff training and development, and acts as one of the first responders in emergency situations. Head Lifeguards contribute to accident prevention, staff oversight, and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment throughout the aquatic facility.

Supervision

Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Park Manager and Aquatics Administrator, or as assigned.

Schedule

Between 30 and 40 hours per week.

  • Assists in the general supervision and management of the aquatic facility.
  • Supervises staff as necessary for aquatic operations and services.
  • Assists in the training, coaching, and discipline of aquatic personnel.
  • Knows, understands, and enforces all rules and regulations governing patron conduct and facility emergency procedures.
  • Inspects pool areas for safety, cleanliness, and aesthetic quality.
  • Knows and follows proper facility opening and closing procedures.
  • Assists with planning and implementing aquatic training sessions and programs.
  • Assists with coordination of the daily lifeguard rotation.
  • May serve on stand during rotation when needed.
  • Maintains a supervisory presence on the pool deck during operating hours.
  • Performs maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned to support a safe and well-maintained facility.
  • Responds to patron needs courteously and relays feedback regarding the facility, staff, or public to supervisors.
  • Administers First Aid as needed.
  • Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the general public.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Important Duties
  • Attends all training sessions as deemed appropriate by the supervisor or department head.
  • Maintains appropriate supplies for assigned area.
  • Maintains neat and orderly work area.
  • Education & Experience

    At least two (2) years of prior experience working in a lifeguard position is preferred. At least one (1) year of prior experience working in a lifeguard position for our Republic Aquatic Facility within the last three years strongly preferred.

    • Must be a strong swimmer
    • Must be a self-starter who possesses initiative and urgency in their work
    • Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills

    • Must be able to quickly assess or judge situations
    • Must be able to make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility
    • Must have a working knowledge in the basic skills of operating computers

    Special Requirements
    • Must be at least 16 years old to apply.
    • Must either have a valid Missouri State Driver’s License or reliable transportation.
    • Must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate and be certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer. All certifications must remain valid throughout the entire season.
    Physical Demands

    Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead;
    Must be able to reach, grip and hold;
    Must be able to sit, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time;
    Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry 60 pounds.
