Qualifications:

  • Completion of 60 or more college credit hours prior to coaching.
  • Teaching certificate or NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Class prior to 2nd year of coaching.
  • Criminal justice fingerprint and background clearance.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or Superintendent may find appropriate.

Reports To: 7th & 8th Grade Coaches, Activities Director, and Building Principal

Required Performance and

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensures a safe and respectful environment for all those involved in the football program while modeling and demonstrating the highest level of professionalism to students, colleagues, parents, members of the community, and other football teams.
  • Assumes responsibility for the area(s) of the football program designated by the 7th & 8th grade football coaches which include: helps coach the 7th & 8th grade program, gives guidance to the middle school program and implements district athletic department policies.
  • Works with the 7th & 8th grade coaches, Athletic Director and Building Administrator: by communicating of middle school football schedule, arrangement and communication of travel for out of town trips, verification of student physical examination requirements of the middle school, preparation of athletic permission slips and eligibility lists and organization of middle school communications of the middle school football program for incoming 7th graders.
  • Works with 7th & 8th grade coaches to develop the practice schedules of middle school football.
  • Supervises practice fields and playing fields during and following periods of team participation.
  • Remains with students and supervises them while traveling to away competitions.
  • Cares for athletes and injured athletes.
  • Cares for, maintains and oversees the storage of all equipment and uniforms.
  • Prepares award lists and season records.
  • Works closely with newspapers, radio and television personnel to encourage favorable public interest in the program.
  • Attends all meetings regarding participation of football with the Gasconade County R‑II School District.
  • Attends all state meetings where the program is involved and operates within the policies of the Gasconade County R‑II School District.
  • Works with the preparation and maintenance of field facilities.
  • Keeps informed on current trends and attends and participates in clinics.
  • Maintains active membership in related professional organizations.
  • Prepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in athletic contests.
  • Maintains a positive staff relationship with other coaches.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the 7th & 8th grade coaches, Athletic Director and Building Principal.
  • Communicates with players about personal development during the season as well as the off-season.
  • Holds meetings with parents to inform them about the program as well as expectations of them and the players.
  • Leads by example regarding promotion of sportsmanship.
  • Promotes the high school football program by encouraging participation of players of the upcoming season.
  • Applies and enforces student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, & while on trips off school property per student handbook.

Salary: 6.5% of base teacher salary schedule to be established by the Board of Education.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.

Physical, Mental and Visual Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit.
