The Head Lifeguard's responsibilities include ensuring the safety, supervision, and daily operational support of the White Birch Bay Aquatic Center. In addition to performing all duties of a Lifeguard, this position provides leadership to lifeguard staff, assists with training and scheduling, monitors compliance with safety protocols, and serves as the primary point of contact during assigned shifts. The Head Lifeguard models professionalism, accountability, and exceptional customer service.

• Perform all Lifeguard duties, including surveillance, rule enforcement, and emergency response.
• Provide shift supervision and leadership to lifeguard staff.
• Assist with staff scheduling, break rotations, and coverage adjustments.
• Conduct or assist with in-service training and skill evaluations.
• Monitor compliance with safety procedures, rescue readiness, and facility standards.
• Document incidents, accidents, and rule violations in accordance with City procedures.
• Serve as acting lead during assigned shifts and communicate operational issues to supervisors.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures of the Aquatic facility.
• Ensure facility cleanliness and safety standards are maintained
• Provide professional, courteous, and responsive customer service to patrons.
• Comply with all City of Hazelwood policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
• Minimum of one (1) season of lifeguarding experience preferred.
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills.

The physical demands described here are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Duties require the ability to swim proficiently, perform water rescues, remain alert for extended periods, sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry equipment, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
