- High School diploma or equivalent GED.
- 0 to 2 years of job‑related prior experience.
- Successful completion of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Driver’s Course required while employed (i.e., retraining, refresher, recertification).
- Current CDL and School Bus Permit required.
- Experience working with special education and high‑needs students preferred.
Transportation Director
Job GoalTransport students to and from school in a safe manner and perform related functions. Inspect and maintain the school bus to ensure proper operating condition.
Performance Responsibilities- Transport students of all ages to and from school and extracurricular activities in a safe and timely manner.
- Manage student behavior and maintain discipline on the bus.
- Conduct and log pre‑trip inspections to check for cleanliness, safety, proper mechanical functions, and adequate fuel levels.
- Maintain and track route data as mandated by school and state regulations.
- Maintain the confidentiality of students’ discipline and medical records.
- Report mechanical problems to district mechanic.
- Attend in‑services as available.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate positively and constructively with parents, students, administration, and others.
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by Transportation Supervisor and district administration.
Board‑approved academic calendar + 1 additional staff training day.
EvaluationEach employee will be evaluated by supervisors on a regular basis according to evaluation procedures established by the Board of Education. Evaluations will be based on general expectations for all employees and the specific responsibilities of the position.
Physical, Mental and Visual DemandsFrequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Occasionally required to push or lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to read handwritten or typed materials and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with staff and the public.
