Position: Transportation - Substitute Bus Driver

Responsible To: Director of Transportation

Primary Responsibilities:

To provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school for students according to established routes and within established guidelines; to provide safe efficient transportation to students on extra‑curricular or other non‑route trips.

Qualifications:

1. Must hold CDL or the ability to obtain a CDL with Passenger, and School Bus Endorsements.

2. Willingness to qualify for a background check and pre‑employment drug test as required by the state of Mo.

3. Excellent driving skills and possess a Missouri School Bus Driver Certificate.

4. Knowledge of transportation safety regulations and procedures.

5. Ability to deal with students in a courteous, but firm manner.

6. Ability to deal with adults in a responsible, courteous manner.

7. Able to make quick and responsible decisions.

8. Prior public transportation driving experience or commercial driving experience preferred.

9. Successful completion of annual health appraisal.

10. Ability to pass mandatory random drug tests.

Yearly evaluation by Director/Assistant Director of Transportation

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Addresses behavior problems when necessary in order to maintain control and safety, maintains open communication with parents; reports major disciplinary problems to the appropriate building principal in writing on the School Bus Incident Form.
  • Attends safety meetings and other workshops to maintain high levels of safety awareness and procedures; as required.
  • Attend work regularly.
  • Completes paperwork such as student count, recording mileage, accident reports and vehicle maintenance requests.
  • Follow administrative directives regarding keeping buses clean and following all district protocols to maintain and operate equipment within district guidance and according to state law and district policy.
  • Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Drives specific routes transporting students to and from school; must be punctual.
  • Fuels bus as needed and provides appropriate reports on fuel usage.
  • Inspects bus for damage at the end of each run; sweeps bus and leaves vehicles in clean condition.
  • Maintains courteous and professional relationships with pupils, parents/guardians, teachers, and other employees of the district and all patrons of the district.
  • Obeys all District transportation policies and disciplinary standards.
  • Obeys all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40‑hour work week when work‑load requires.
  • Perform complete pre‑trip inspection daily; report any noted mechanical problem on the inspection form.
  • Performs other duties as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, staff and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40‑hour work week when work‑load requires.
  • Submit all required reports or paperwork at the time requested.
  • Sweep the bus and leave the bus in a clean condition at the end of each route. Washes the bus as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned as needed.

Supervisory Duties

Responsible for supervising students on the bus and as deemed necessary by supervisors.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to define problems and locate and reference District and state‑level requirements for student transportation.
  • Communicate fluently in English, but verbally and in writing.
  • Present information in an organized and professional manner, to students, parents, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret administrative correspondence and directives as well as Board policy and handbooks.
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills including operation of District email.
