Location: FFSD Transportation Depot District-Wide Routes

Status: 188-Day Academic Calendar;
Support Staff Non-Exempt (FLSA)

You are a safety leader, a conflict-resolver, and a friendly face who ensures students feel secure and respected from boarding to arrival. Role Summary

As a School Bus Monitor, you work with the Bus Driver to provide a safe, secure, and positive environment on the bus. Your primary focus is student management—assisting with safe boarding, securing safety restraints for younger students (Head Start/Early Childhood), and proactively managing behavior to reduce driver distractions. You are the eyes and ears on the bus floor, ensuring safety protocols are followed while students feel supported.

Qualifications
  • Mature Professionalism: Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • The  Peace-Maker : Experience in defusing confrontational situations with tact, diplomacy, and good judgment in interactions with students and parents.
  • Child Development Savvy: Knowledge of school-age children and their developmental needs.
  • Team-Oriented Mindset: Able to work alongside a driver to keep the route efficient and safe.
  • Physical Readiness: Able to stand, walk, sit, and reach with ease; kneel and crouch to secure safety restraints; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Your Impact (Key Duties)
  • Safety Stewardship: Assist with daily inspections of the passenger area and ensure all child safety restraints are in proper working order and secured.
  • Climate Management: Monitor student behavior to maintain a calm atmosphere and use restorative strategies to keep students safe and engaged.
  • Route Knowledge: Maintain knowledge of the assigned route and each student s needs and stops.
  • Emergency Response: Lead during emergency evacuations, assisting the driver and students in staying calm and moving to safety.
  • Accurate Reporting: Complete Bus Referrals and Incident Reports to inform building administrators of student progress.
