As a Cargo Operations Analyst supporting APL (Guam), you will execute a multi-functional role of customer service, finance, and operations responsibilities. This position serves as the principal contact for all vessel and equipment operations, customers inquiring about either import or export cargo, and expediting all issues by quickly resolving to reduce service failures or loss of business. You will support overall business strategy and must be passionate about customers, adaptable to our industry’s constant changes, and able to execute essential functions and day‑to‑day responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Manage all aspects of import and export shipments, including bill of lading release, sailing schedule information, cut‑off/early return dates, equipment availability, routing, track & trace of containers and chassis, change of destination (COD), container swaps, re‑exports, etc.
- Address customer inquiries and requests received via email or telephone, using corporate information, local tools, and third‑party data to ensure compliance with government regulations, company policies, and trade directives.
- Research and resolve import or export issues through root cause analysis and act as liaison with external customers to reduce service failures.
- For escalated issues, provide management with resolution options for corrective action.
- Liaise with internal departments (origin/destination agents, accounts receivable, GBS) to assist customers with remittance advice regarding payment posting and account balance adjustments.
- Review and reconcile supplier/vendor invoice discrepancies.
- Re‑bill customers for transport‑related expenses when applicable.
- Produce and issue load/transportation orders, vessel operations reports (lift projections, HI BIO & wharfage reports, shift reports, etc.), and neighbor island schedules for terminal operators, stevedores, husbandry, customs, drayage, and barge suppliers/vendors.
- Interface with internal and external teams for import and export vessel and equipment operations, act as customs liaison for scheduling mobile RPM, monitor partner vessel allocations, maintain equipment pool levels, organize hazardous declarations, distribute temperature‑controlled and out‑of‑gauge cargo manifests, approve late gate authorizations, resolve terminal/gate receipt/delivery issues, order National Cargo Bureau surveys, and other related tasks.
- Ensure over‑the‑road compliance for door deliveries, neighbor island moves, military cargo, and the chassis pool.
- MISCELLANEOUS RELATED DUTIES OR PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
- Understanding of phone etiquette and background handling of international customers.
- Active listening skills and the ability to demonstrate empathy.
- Strong foundation in problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of the maritime shipping industry and vessel & equipment operations.
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with high analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including all Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
- General experience: 1–3 years.
- Industry experience: 1–3 years.
- Stated salary range: $46,012 – $57,542 per year.
