The job of Dispatch & Route Specialist is done for the purpose/s of providing safe and efficient student transportation throughout the district; overseeing day-to-day operation of school bus drivers; assigning and scheduling routes and buses; maintaining and updating bus routes; processing information pertaining to routine and emergency road and maintenance issues; and maintaining department records in accordance with mandated requirements. Drives school bus/s for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: district boundaries and local geography; emergency protocols; transportation laws and regulations; pertinent department policies and procedures; office practices and procedures;

and concepts of grammar and punctuation. SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating two-way radio and county emergency radio; route planning and optimization; problem solving; operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications;

performing standard clerical procedures; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups;

work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities;
