Driver – CDL Training Program
Smithfield Foods, Inc. is offering a CDL training program for Drivers with a Class A CDL license. The program equips candidates to safely and responsibly operate company vehicles and manage livestock handling while upholding animal welfare standards.
Core Responsibilities- Successfully complete a 5–7 week training program.
- Follow required and recommended safety procedures while driving, delivering feed, or loading/unloading animals with animal welfare as the foremost concern.
- Comply with all DOT rules and regulations.
- Report all accidents promptly through proper authorities.
- Adhere to all rules set forth by the receiving agent.
- High school diploma or GED (preferred).
- Current Class A CDL.
- Previous driving experience preferred.
- At least 21 years old.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain a DOT medical card upon hire.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs, operating a manual transmission tractor, hooking up trailers, and performing pre‑trip inspections. Tasks include backing trailers, raising landing gear, climbing into the engine area, and opening/closing trailer gates to load/unload animals. The job may involve tight spaces, handling animals, and operating in outdoor environments.
