ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise students on the school bus to promote safe and appropriate behavior.
- Assist students during boarding and exiting procedures, ensuring student safety at all times.
- Help maintain order and enforce school and transportation rules while on the bus.
- Monitor student conduct and address minor behavioral concerns in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Report disciplinary issues, safety concerns, accidents, injuries, or incidents to the bus driver and appropriate school personnel.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding bus pick up and drop off, at times making phone calls
- Wait with students until the final student is released to their guardian
- Assist younger students and students with special needs as required.
- Ensure students remain seated and follow safety procedures during transportation.
- Support emergency evacuation procedures and participate in required safety drills.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, bus drivers, and school staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Attend required training, meetings, and professional development sessions as assigned.
- Assist in creating a welcoming and positive environment for all students.
- Resolve routine communication problems or incident reports with families, students, and school officials
- Demonstrate team work with bus driver daily
- Support with arrival and dismissal
- Ability to board and exit a school bus multiple times during a shift.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and assist students as needed.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds when necessary.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions during student loading and unloading.
- Possess a high school diploma (or equivalent experience)
- CPR and First Aid certification required
- Experience working with children in a school, childcare, recreational, or youth-serving environment preferred.
- Ability to effectively supervise and manage student behavior.
- You are professional, warm, and collaborative with students, families, and colleagues
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with transportation and school staff.
- Ability to pass all required background checks and clearances.

We are hiring two part-time Bus Monitors. Each Bus Monitor will be assigned to one route and will work a split schedule, reporting in the morning and returning in the afternoon. Each position is approximately 5 to 5.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Actual times may vary slightly due to traffic, student boarding, and transportation delays.
ROUTE 900 — BUS MONITOR #1Morning Schedule — Monday through Friday 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
- Student pickup: 7:30 a.m. at 407 S. Chicago Street
- School drop-off:
Approximately 7:40 a.m. at 4360 Dozier Street
Afternoon Schedule Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and Friday: 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Afternoon pickup: 4360 Dozier Street
- Estimated final drop-off on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 3:35 p.m.
- Estimated final drop-off on Wednesday and Friday: 2:15 p.m.
Estimated hours: 5 hours per week
ROUTE 901 — BUS MONITOR #2Morning Schedule — Monday through Friday 7:10 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
- First student pickup: 7:13 a.m. at 5634 Whittier Boulevard
- Second student pickup: 7:27 a.m. at 1317 S. Herbert Avenue

Afternoon Schedule Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 3:20 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. Wednesday and Friday: 2:05 p.m. to 2:35 p.m.
