Job Description:

Responsible for providing field support services and assisting managers, supervisors, and drivers with the implementation of the Company’s Fleet Safety Management policies and procedures. Conducts audits and data-driven driver coaching to actively mitigate on-road operational risks. This role frequently visits field operations and jobsites to ensure compliance with the Company’s Fleet Safety Program and FMCSA regulatory requirements. Utilizing the Company’s Driver Support System (Samsara) and Driver Monitoring Program (Samba Safety), they identify safe / at-risk driving behaviors, deliver coaching and lead defensive driving classroom and field-based remedial training sessions to correct high-risk behaviors.

Maintains documentation and provides guidance to ensure driver and Company regulatory compliance in a manner that is consistent with Company ethics and core values.

ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement and Monitor :
    Audit and maintain Driver Qualification (DQ) files, verifying valid Authorized Driver, CMV Driver and CDL Driver Class A/B credentials, Haz Mat endorsements (HME), and perform required background checks as applicable. Support DOT / FMCSA compliance tracking and required reporting.

  • Review Driver Support System (Samsara, Samba Safety), focusing on safe driving habits, and coaching on at-risk behaviors and events.

  • Mitigation Strategies :
    Identify and report compliance gaps and risks. Develop and implement strategies to reduce fleet related incidents to meet project and/or business objectives, under the guidance of the Fleet Safety Specialist 3, Fleet Safety Manager or Director.

  • Audits and Inspections :
    Independently initiate, perform and document fleet safety audits, evaluations, inspections and/or safety conversations; communicate and facilitate the implementation of corrective actions.

  • Technical Communication :
    Working with the Fleet Safety Manager to develop and distribute fleet safety correspondence to further enhance elements of the fleet safety program. Update Driver and team members on regulatory and company policy/procedure changes.

  • Incident Investigation and Analysis :
    Assist with incident documentation, evidence collection, and reporting. Coach operations management to implement strategies to reduce future occurrences. Code incidents into company systems consistent with Company and FMCSA recordkeeping expectations. Utilize incident trends and inspection data to recommend training solutions. Support insurance and regulatory reporting requirements and corrective action follow‑up.

  • DOT Accident Support - Lead immediate, on-scene or virtual accident investigations for any spills, rollovers, or CMV collisions, determining root causes and cargo-failure factors.

  • Training and Education :
    Identify and assist team members needing training or support to meet fleet safety training requirements. Initiate, coordinate and lead safety meetings and training programs to communicate company procedures. Monitor and assist in scheduling DOT/FMCSA safety training for drivers and supervisors. Follow‑up with operations managers, supervisors, and drivers to ensure trainings are proactively scheduled and completed prior to upcoming work activities.

  • Point of Contact :
    Under the guidance of the Fleet Safety Manager, Director or VP of Safety, serve as a point of contact for any federal or state, safety or risk management authority and/or personnel, (i.e. Federal or State DOT, FMCSA, etc.). Assist drivers and supervisors with investigating and managing incidents.
