FRONT DESK RECEPTIONIST

Reports To:
Parks & Recreation Coordinator

Grade:
Part Time | Non-Exempt | Pay DOE

Hours:
Must be willing to work various shifts, rotating weekend shifts, and be on call

Definition

This position plays a key role in creating a positive and inviting atmosphere for all who enter the facility. Under general supervision, serves as the primary front desk representative and first point of contact for Unity Health and Fitness. Provides exceptional customer service and hospitality to members, guests, and the public while performing a variety of administrative and clerical support duties.

Responsibilities include greeting visitors, processing memberships and payments, answering phones, maintaining records, supporting facility operations, and ensuring a welcoming and professional environment. Performs related work as required.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general supervision from the Park & Recreation Coordinator or other assigned management personnel. May receive functional or technical direction from department staff. Does not exercise direct supervision over staff but may assist in training part-time or temporary employees.

Class Characteristics

This classification performs a wide range of front desk, customer service, and administrative support duties in support of Unity Health and Fitness operations. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced recreational environment.

Qualifications Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of excellent customer service and public interaction.
  • Basic accounting and bookkeeping procedures (preferred).
  • Cash handling and payment processing procedures is preferred.
  • Staff scheduling principles (preferred).
  • Modern office practices, equipment, and computer applications.
  • Record keeping and filing systems.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and business correspondence standards.
Ability to:
  • Deliver outstanding customer service with a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts and rotating weekends.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Perform detailed clerical and financial record‑keeping tasks accurately.
  • Handle monetary transactions responsibly and accurately.
  • Learn and apply departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality when required.
  • Manage multiple tasks in a busy recreational facility environment.
  • Work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Resolve customer concerns with tact and professionalism.
  • Operate computers and specialized recreation software systems.
  • Perform basic mathematical computations accurately.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or cash reconciliation.
  • Experience in recreation, fitness, hospitality, or public‑facing environment.
Physical Demands

Work is primarily performed in an indoor recreational and aquatic facility environment. Duties require the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; operate standard office equipment; and occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Employees may bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform light physical tasks associated with front desk and facility operations.
