Job Description Body Shop Attendant Position Summary The Body Shop Attendant is responsible for ensuring repaired vehicles are cleaned, polished, and prepared for customer delivery while assisting technicians with general shop duties. This position plays a critical role in maintaining production flow, shop organization, and delivering a high-quality finished product to every customer.
Reports ToBody Shop Manager Primary Responsibilities Buffing & Paint Finishing
- Buff newly painted panels and complete vehicles.
- Polish paint to remove sanding scratches and minor imperfections.
- Perform finish corrections as instructed by painters.
- Maintain a swirl-free, high-quality finish.
- Notify painter or manager of any paint defects requiring additional repair.
- Wash, dry, vacuum, and clean customer vehicles before delivery.
- Clean windows, wheels, tires, and door jambs.
- Remove overspray, adhesive residue, and contaminants.
- Dress tires and apply finishing products as directed.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure cleanliness meets dealership standards.
- Prepare vehicles for customer pickup.
- Assist body and paint technicians as requested.
- Remove and reinstall simple trim pieces and moldings.
- Mask and unmask vehicles.
- Sand and prepare minor parts.
- Clean parts prior to painting.
- Deliver parts and materials throughout the shop.
- Move vehicles safely throughout the facility.
- General cleaning maintenance.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Ability to safely operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work on feet for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Dependable attendance.
- Positive attitude and willingness to help others.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Previous detailing or body shop experience preferred.
- Experience using rotary and dual-action polishers.
- Knowledge of automotive finishes and paint care.
- Frequent standing and walking
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work around paint products and detailing chemicals
- Ability to work in varying temperatures
- Follow all OSHA and dealership safety policies.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate equipment safely.
- Keep work area free of hazards.
- Immediately report accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions.
