Overview
Adjunct Faculty – Computer Science. The position will involve teaching undergraduate courses in the Computer Science program at Kean University. The role may be taught in‑person at the Union or Jersey City campuses, or online as required.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses in Computer Science, including:
- Information Technology Foundations
- Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence
- Computer Systems
- Analysis of Algorithms
- Computer Architecture
- Web Programming
- Java Programming
- Python Programming
- Other related topics as assigned
- Provide at least one (1) hour of availability outside of classroom per week for each three‑credit course, and an additional thirty (30) minutes for each additional class taught.
- For courses of fewer than three (3) credits, provide at least thirty (30) minutes of availability each week.
- Schedule availability in a manner that meets students’ needs, either in person or virtually.
- Maintain course materials and use the university’s learning management system consistently with university guidelines.
- Submit official transcripts before appointment.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D., or other acceptable disciplinary doctorate.
- Teaching experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in the university’s learning management system is required.
- Ability to teach both daytime and evening courses.
- Effective September 2025: $2,100 per credit.
- Effective September 2026: $2,225 per credit.
- After teaching thirteen (13) semesters, adjuncts receive an additional $75 per credit.
- Adjuncts are enrolled in a state‑administered retirement plan when eligible.
- Adjudicated as part‑time, adjuncts may enroll in the Part‑Time State Health Benefits Program for medical and prescription drug coverage.
- Adjuncts may provide additional office hours beyond the required availability at their discretion.
Employment may occur at any of Kean University’s New Jersey campus locations or affiliated work sites, including but not limited to the main campus in Union;
Kean Ocean in Toms River;
Kean Skylands in Jefferson Township;
Kean Jersey City;
Kean at Brookdale in Middletown Township;
Manahawkin;
Princeton; and Trenton. Faculty may also be assigned to teach online classes for Kean Global. Employment requires working on site or virtually as required by operational and university needs.
