The Transportation Aide provides individualized supervision and support to students with disabilities while they are being transported to and from school. The aide helps ensure a safe, supportive, and orderly transportation environment while providing assistance based on each student's unique needs and Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Responsibilities may include:
- Review, understand, and follow relevant components of a student's IEP, including accommodations, behavioral supports, communication needs, health and safety considerations, and other transportation-related requirements.
- Provide individualized support based on each student's identified needs, abilities, and IEP.
- Supervise and support students throughout transportation.
- Assist students with safely entering, exiting, and riding the bus.
- Support students with behavioral, social-emotional, communication, sensory, and/or physical needs, as appropriate.
- Implement student-specific strategies, accommodations, behavioral supports, and safety procedures consistently.
- Recognize individual student needs and respond calmly and appropriately to behavioral, emotional, or safety concerns.
- Communicate relevant observations, concerns, or incidents to appropriate school personnel.
- Maintain student confidentiality and follow all District safety procedures and protocols.
Ideal Candidate
- The ideal candidate is patient, dependable, attentive, and responsive to the individual needs of students with disabilities. The successful candidate must be able to read and understand relevant components of a student's IEP and translate that information into appropriate, individualized support during transportation.
- Experience working with children with disabilities and an understanding of behavioral, social-emotional, communication, and/or physical support needs is strongly preferred.
