Security Bank has an opportunity for an Ag Banking/Branch Manager to join our team in Viborg, South Dakota. Ag Banking/Branch Manager must have agricultural knowledge, understanding of crop/livestock productions, commodity markets, and farm operations. This position requires someone who can achieve the bank’s goals, mission, vision, and build strong relationships both internally and in the community. This position will be responsible for handling the day-to-day management of the Viborg branch and team members.
The Ag Banking/Branch Manager will report directly to the Bank President.
- Loan origination, identify financing needs, gather client information, and recommend appropriate loan products.
- Develop new business by contacting prospects while making sound decisions and exhibiting good credit judgment.
- Negotiate rates and terms of loans with clients and management within set guidelines.
- Develop and execute strategies to increase branch profitability.
- Lead the branch team and develop an atmosphere of teamwork, open communication, unity and actively mentor staff.
- Build long‑term relationships with colleagues, clients, vendors, stakeholders and participate in community networking groups.
- Maintain a working knowledge of state and federal banking regulations and enforce branch compliance with applicable regulations, laws, and guidelines.
- Manage loan portfolios and process both large and complex loans based on loan policies and procedures, which may include assisting with underwriting and execution of loans.
- Ensure that the branch achieves budgeted performance for earnings, asset quality, and growth in deposits, and non‑interest income.
- Support the bank’s strong relationship banking culture through ongoing client contact, high‑quality client service and product knowledge.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Agribusiness, or related field.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in agricultural lending including experience working with farm financials, FSA guaranteed loans, or agribusiness operations.
- Strong understanding of financial statements and assessing repayment capacity.
- Knowledge of loan policies and lending regulations including but not limited to FDIC and Farm Credit guidelines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem solving, ability to structure creative financing solutions with high level of accuracy and timeliness.
- Technology proficiency with loan software, spreadsheets, and CRM tools.
- Ability to build relationships and provide exceptional customer service.
- Demonstrate professionalism in working with the community and all levels of management.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- Loan Growth – New loan volume and portfolio expansion.
- Portfolio Quality – Delinquency rates, risk ratings, and credit quality.
- Customer Retention – Relationship depth and repeat business.
- Compliance Accuracy – Audit results and documentation quality.
- Mix office visits and on‑site farm visits.
- Frequent interaction with producers, ag retailers, and rural community leaders.
- Seasonal workload peaks during planting, harvest, and loan renewal seasons.
