About the Opportunity
We’re partnering with a large packaging manufacturing facility seeking a Controller in Mitchell, SD. This is a strong opportunity for an accounting and finance leader to step into a steady, well‑performing site with straightforward processes and strong business visibility. The facility supports major national accounts. The current Controller is staying with the company in a new role and will help train the incoming person, creating a smoother transition.
This is a fit for someone who wants ownership over accounting and finance, enjoys being close to plant performance, and can help the site stay on budget through strong reporting, forecasting, and financial control.
You’ll provide financial leadership and analytical support for the site leadership team, with focus on close, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and plant performance.
- Own accounting and finance for the site
- Support monthly close, including accruals and financial reporting
- Prepare and present month‑end results
- Track mid‑month projections, including labor efficiency, scrap, and cost savings
- Support monthly forecasting for the full P&L
- Help maintain the annual operating plan and budget
- Analyze and evaluate monthly operating results
- Support annual budgets, monthly production forecasts, and weekly results reporting
- Direct accounting functions, including accounts payable, cost accounting, and financial reporting
- Develop and maintain planning and budgeting systems
- Present findings and recommendations to management
- Analyze trends requiring management attention
- Support compliance matters and internal financial processes
- Guide, train, and manage accounting staff as needed
You are a strong accounting leader who takes ownership, raises your hand when issues come up, and understands the importance of keeping a site on budget.
You bring solid financial discipline and can connect plant activity to reporting, forecasting, and business performance. Manufacturing experience is a plus, but strong accounting, cost accounting, accruals, budgeting, and forecasting experience are the key priorities.
You would do well here if you are steady, accountable, comfortable presenting results, and able to partner with site leadership in a practical, business‑focused way.
Preferred Experience & Attributes- Bachelor’s degree or related work experience in lieu of degree
- Strong accounting experience
- Cost accounting experience
- Accrual experience
- Budgeting and forecasting experience
- Experience supporting month‑end close and financial reporting
- Ability to prepare presentations and report out financial results
- SAP experience is a plus
- Manufacturing experience is a plus
- Ability to monitor labor efficiency, scrap, cost savings, and full P&L performance
- Strong leadership mindset and ownership over accounting and finance
- Ability to support budgeting systems, management reporting, and financial controls
