Pay Range:

The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience.

$32.50 - $48.50

Student Loan Repayment

This Registered Nurse (RN) position may be eligible for Avera’s Student Loan Repayment Program. Each month an extra payment of $167 (up to $10,000) from Avera will help pay down your principal balance faster.

A Brief Overview

Provides care and treatment to patients on maintenance dialysis. Dialysis treatment is provided within the scope of nursing practice. Home dialysis nurses provide major portions of self‑care and home dialysis training for dialysis patients and/or their caregivers.

What you will do
  • Perform and maintain knowledge and proficiency in technical skills for dialysis treatments.
  • Provide oversight and delegation to department staff.
  • Understand and ensure compliance related to water room equipment operation and function.
  • Comply with established departmental policies and procedures, scope of care, performance improvement activities, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Document in the patient record according to departmental policy/procedure.
  • Promote and maintain documentation and an environment that is in compliance with state, federal, and regulatory agencies, including CMS/ESRD‑Renal Network, and Quality Assurance and Process Improvement efforts.
  • Coordinate care of patients in collaboration with Medical Director, Nephrologist, patients, families, other nursing staff and all ancillary departments.
  • Act as a patient/family advocate. Collaborate with the patient, family, and health care providers in providing patient care.
  • Identify patient/family learning needs. Develop, implement, and evaluate an educational plan for patients. Provide patient education related to, but not limited to, the dialysis process and procedures, including care and management of dialysis accesses.

Required Education, License/Certification
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Board of Nursing. An active license in the state of practice upon hire.
Preferred Education, License/Certification
  • Certified Hemodialysis Nurse (CHN) - Board of Nephrology Examiners, Nursing and Technology (BONENT) upon hire or
  • Certified Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse (CPDN) - Board of Nephrology Examiners, Nursing and Technology (BONENT) upon hire or
  • Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) upon hire or
  • Specialty Certification - The American Society of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ASHI) upon hire.
  • Dialysis experience or critical care experience.
  • 1‑3 years nursing experience if functioning as a home dialysis nurse and an additional 3 months experience in each of the specific modalities (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) for which the nurse will provide self‑care training.
