This is a full‑time, 40‑hour weekly position with the Department of the Military. The role is Senior Building Maintenance Worker for the Mitchell, Parkston, and Chamberlain facilities, with home station placement in Mitchell, SD. The successful candidate will perform facility maintenance tasks including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, preventive maintenance, janitorial, grounds maintenance, snow removal, and a variety of other tasks.
ResponsibilitiesThe role requires experience with facility maintenance across all areas, interacting with customers, scheduling and completing maintenance projects, reporting and record keeping with contractors and vendors, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, and the use of diagnostic meters. The individual will track critical outages and work orders, maintain high technical expertise, and comply with department policies and procedures.
Licenses and Certifications- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain chemical applicator licenses
- Record keeping and report writing
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions for maintenance or repair projects
- Methods and practices of building construction, general building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems
- Custodial and grounds maintenance practices
- Tools and equipment for maintenance activities
- State of South Dakota procurement regulations
- Clear and concise communication
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Operate computers effectively
- Read and interpret blueprints and construction plans
- Accurately estimate costs of repairs and material requirements
- Operate construction equipment and power tools
- Assess repair or preventive maintenance needs
- Safely lift 50 pounds or more
- Work from ladders, scaffolding, or confined areas
- Work outdoors
Eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08. Successful applicant will undergo a background investigation and a National Security Check to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC). A National Career Readiness Certificate is not required.
