Position: Part-time Biology Instructor (Adjunct Faculty)

Overview

MACC is seeking part‑time Biology adjunct faculty. Positions are contracted for a semester, paid per credit hour. Availability depends on enrollment of courses at all MACC sites. Eligible candidates are added to a three‑year faculty pool.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Biology or related field.
  • Minimum of 18 graduate hours in the subject area.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Teach classes assigned by administration (day, evening, dual credit, distance, or any campus location).
  • Provide effective instruction including active learning activities and frequent, timely feedback to students.
  • Develop and update course materials, handouts, lectures, labs, ensuring alignment with the common syllabus.
  • Provide students with a course syllabus outlining learning expectations, major assignments and methods of evaluation; submit a copy to the appropriate dean by the second week of each semester.
  • Use course‑adopted textbooks and resources.
  • Maintain adequate course records, including grades and attendance, and submit required records by the established date.
  • Maintain at least three office hours per week (if teaching at least nine credit hours) and provide a copy of office hours to the dean.
  • Follow college‑wide attendance policy and drop non‑attending students in a timely manner.
  • Refer at‑risk students to available support resources and interventions.
  • Participate in program assessment development, revision, implementation and use feedback to improve learning outcomes.
  • Attend faculty meetings when requested by the dean.
  • Check college email regularly and maintain effective communication with students, administrators, lead instructors, and colleagues.
  • Participate in professional growth activities and service opportunities approved by the department.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to achieve shared goals and strategic priorities.
  • Submit updated/current transcripts to Human Resources, showing all college work earned at graduate and undergraduate levels and all degrees granted.
  • Carry out policies developed by the Board of Trustees and interpreted by administration.
  • Perform other duties assigned by dean, Vice President for Instruction or President.
