Inventory Accountant

We are assisting a client in Mobile, AL their search for an Inventory Accountant. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and manage inventory-related accounting activities, maintain accurate financial records, and support strong internal controls. This role is responsible for reconciling inventory accounts, analyzing variances, supporting month-end close, and partnering with operations, warehouse, and purchasing teams to ensure inventory accuracy and compliance.

• Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure inventory transactions are recorded in accordance with accounting policies.
• Reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for month-end and year-end close.
• Analyze inventory valuation, reserves, obsolescence, and cost variances.
• Support cycle counts and physical inventory counts; review results and post approved adjustments.
• Partner with warehouse, procurement, production, and operations teams to improve inventory accuracy and processes.
• Assist with standard costing updates, cost roll-forwards, and inventory reporting.
• Monitor internal controls related to inventory and recommend process improvements.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and explanations.
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports for management on inventory balances, trends, and variances.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA or CMA preferred
• 2+ years of accounting experience; inventory, cost accounting, manufacturing, retail, or distribution experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and inventory accounting principles.
• Experience with ERP systems and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to analyze large data sets, identify variances, and resolve issues accurately and efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
