Accounting Manager, Financial Reporting
The MTNA Rainsville Plant is searching for an Assistant Manager for their Accounting department. The Accounting Assistant Manager supports the Head Office Accounting leader in overseeing daily accounting operations within an automotive manufacturing environment in Rainsville, Alabama. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, cost control, inventory accounting, and compliance with internal controls, corporate policies, and regulatory requirements. The position plays a key role in month-end closing, manufacturing cost accounting, and continuous process improvement.
EssentialJob Functions Financial Operations & Reporting
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company standards
- Provide accounting and financial support to other departments
- Analyze financial data to support management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and documentation
- Manage weekly cash flow, petty cash, short-term loans, and credit card transactions
- Maintain and analyze standard cost systems, including labor, overhead, and material variances
- Review and reconcile inventory accounts (raw materials, WIP, finished goods)
- Partner with operations and supply chain to ensure accurate bill of materials (BOMs) and routing
- Monitor and report on production variances, scrap, and efficiencies
- Oversee daily accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and general ledger
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, J-SOX, tax requirements, and corporate policies
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency
- Provide guidance and mentoring to hourly accounting associates
- Act as a backup to the Accounting Manager when required
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, purchasing, and plant leadership on financial matters
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience
- Manufacturing accounting experience preferred; automotive manufacturing strongly preferred
- Experience working in a global or Japanese-owned organization preferred
- Familiarity with headquarters reporting and matrix organizational structures
- Comfortable with budgeting, payroll, audits, and monthly closing procedures
- Hands on experience with cost accounting and inventory management
- Fluent in Japanese language is a plus, but not required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, manufacturing accounting, and internal controls
- Experience with global ERP systems (Crescent One, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial analysis)
- Exposure to standard costing, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
- Understanding of FX, transfer pricing concepts, or intercompany transactions (preferred)
