Job Description

Summary:

The University of South Alabama’s Payroll Accounting department is seeking to hire a Payroll Specialist. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel are required.
  • Payroll experience is preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Use the Banner system to enter personnel action forms to include appointments, salary changes, labor changes, terminations, etc.
  • Review web time entry time sheets for exempt employees to ensure leave and time policies are followed.
  • Audit transactions in the Kronos timekeeping system to ensure work is performed accurately and timely and follows hospital and campus policies.
  • Calculate payouts for terminating and resigning campus employees.
  • Process retroactive payments for employees.
  • Provide backup on auditing, entering, and checking timesheets and apply personnel policies relating to time and attendance.
  • Track and monitor leave taken for campus employees under the Family Medical Leave Act and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
  • Run various reports in Banner and Kronos to review by Excel or PDF to assist with auditing and review of time records to ensure pay policies and payroll deadlines are followed.
  • Process and post amended timesheet through the Kronos system and ensure payment is processed in Banner.
  • Communicate with employees by telephone and in person concerning wages, taxes and deductions, and explain gross to net variances.
  • Prepare and analyze reports in Microsoft Excel.
  • Covers other areas of responsibility during absences.
  • Ensure confidentiality of employee information.
  • Have regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required, which may include holidays.
  • Related duties as required.
