Government Street Presbyterian Church is a PCUSA congregation located in downtown Mobile, Alabama, worshiping together every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The church’s historic sanctuary, built in 1839, is a noted example of Greek Revival architecture and has been a landmark at Jackson and Government Streets for nearly two centuries. The congregation responds to God’s love in Jesus Christ through worship, fellowship, and service, offering ministries for children, youth, college students, and adults, as well as Bible study groups, Presbyterian Women, and a robust music ministry.

The church is actively engaged in urban ministries and global mission work in Mobile and beyond, and welcomes visitors and new members both in person and via live-stream.

Role Description

The Church Operations & Communications Administrator is a full-time, on-site role based in Mobile, AL, responsible for supporting the daily administrative and communication needs of Government Street Presbyterian Church. This role oversees office operations, including managing calendars, coordinating facility use, maintaining records, and providing administrative support to pastoral staff and ministry leaders. The administrator manages internal and external communications such as email newsletters, social media updates, website content, worship bulletins, and other print and digital materials to ensure clear, consistent messaging.

The position serves as a primary point of contact for congregants and visitors, offering welcoming, informed customer service and responding to inquiries in person, by phone, and online. The administrator also assists with coordinating events and programs, tracking basic financial and membership data, and collaborating with staff and volunteers to support the church’s ministries and mission.

Qualifications
  • Strong operations management and administrative assistance skills to coordinate office activities, schedules, records, and general church operations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including clear writing and editing for bulletins, newsletters, social media, and email, as well as professional verbal communication with staff, members, and visitors.
  • Customer service skills to provide a welcoming presence, respond to inquiries, and support congregants, visitors, and ministry leaders with care and professionalism.
  • Analytical skills to manage basic data tracking, reporting, and problem-solving related to membership, events, and operational processes.
  • Proficiency with office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools), email and calendar systems, and basic website or social media management.
  • Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and capacity to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic ministry environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with pastoral staff, music and ministry leaders, volunteers, and committees, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about PCUSA
